This Black Man of Mine

This black man of mine
Amazing he is
Not just because of how tall he stands
Lean torso, long muscular legs
Fit for a basketball playerNot just because of our history
Or the security
When he wraps those arms around me
All my blues fade away
I am reminded of struggles and pain
Overcoming
Conquering
2 beautiful brown girls
But because of the strength
The strength it takes to break down social barriers
He is the present father
Faithful husband
Provider and lover

I refuse to take for granted
This black man of mine
Refuse to accept the claim
There is no good black men

Instead I will love
Cater to
Encourage
Sing from the rooftops
This black man of mine
This black man of mine
This black man of mine
Is your son
Brother
Cousin
Nephew
Classmate
Neighbor

He is not a myth
